Back with a bang, Europe are the legendary synth-rockers most famous for the ubiquitous 80’s anthem The Final Countdown. Since breaking up in the 90’s to work on various solo projects, the band have regrouped, and following a few festival appearances in 2009, have announced a string of UK dates for February.
A groundbreaking New Wave of British Heavy Metal band that has built a loyal fan base over a 35-year touring and recording career. Their visceral, massively propulsive style was a seminal influence on countless metal bands that followed in their wake. One of them was Metallica, which drummer Lars Ulrich formed after being blown away by a Diamond Head show in 1981.
Diamond Head began its journey in 1976 with songs written using a cheap fuzz guitar and biscuit tins. A basement-recorded demo sparked interest with Sounds writer Geoff Barton and began a period of continual gigging that saw them opening for the likes of AC/DC and Iron Maiden. In 1980 they recorded their legendary debut album ‘Lightning To The Nations’ aka ‘The White Album’ containing several classic tracks that were later covered by Metallica: ‘It's Electric,’ ‘The Prince’ ‘Helpless’ and ‘Am I Evil?’ this last song has become a metal anthem being voted the 5th-best heavy metal song of all time by Guitar Player Magazine, and featured on the 2009 Guitar Hero Metallica game.
In 1982 Diamond Head signed to MCA records and appeared at Reading Festival. The band has released six studio albums. With the exception of co-founder, guitarist Brian Tatler, the band’s personal has changed over the years, but its core members still attack the music ferociously: vocalist Nick Tart, drummer Karl Wilcox, bassist Eddie Moohan, and Guitarist Abbz. Notable tours in recent years include their hugely successful European tour supporting Megadeth (2005) plus UK tours with Thin Lizzy (2007) and Europe (2010) Last year Diamond Head opened for the ‘Big 4’at Sonisphere, Knebworth and Sonisphere France where the song Am I Evil? was performed on stage by all of the Big 4, Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax along with Diamond Head’s guitarist Brian Tatler.
